A line of severe thunderstorms moved east into southern Maryland on Monday evening, June 22nd, 2026. This line of storms was the cause of a widespread severe weather outbreak across portions of both Virginia and Maryland. One of the thunderstorms developed rotation as it moved out of Saint Mary's County and across the Patuxent River into Calvert County. Once that storm moved into Calvert County, terminal doppler weather radar at Joint Base Andrews (TADW) indicated an intensifying rotation as it neared Battle Creek, moving quickly east at 50 mph. A drone video captured the tornado developing, and tornadic damage was first reported off Honey Cove Court on the west shore of Battle Creek.
