Every F5 and EF5 tornado since 1950

NOAA Storm Prediction Center tornado database, 1950-2025

The SPC record holds 60 tornadoes rated F5 or EF5 since 1950. The most recent is the June 20, 2025 tornado in Enderlin, North Dakota, the first in 12 years after the May 20, 2013 Moore, Oklahoma, tornado. The 60 together killed 1,350 people. The Storm Prediction Center names each one by the place it struck; the names here are SPC's.

How this was measured

Every tornado the SPC database rates 5 on the Fujita scale (before February 1, 2007) or the Enhanced Fujita scale (since), one row per tornado (whole track). Names are those on SPC's own F5 and EF5 list, matched by date and the nearest track to SPC's point. States are every state the track crossed; counties are those the SPC lists for the track's segments; deaths and injuries are the whole track's.

Limits

Ratings come from damage surveys: a violent tornado over open country with little to damage can be rated lower than its winds. The F and EF scales use different damage indicators, so an F5 and an EF5 are not interchangeable measurements. Ratings can be revised after publication.
